Waited 20 minutes for two drinks on a Saturday. Nobody said anything about the delay.

Jon, thank you for telling us. A 20-minute wait with no update is not okay, and we are sorry. We added a second person on the bar for Saturday mornings. We hope you give us another try.

Three reviews for one pizzeria: a happy one, a mixed one and an angry one. Pick a review to see the reply we would write.

Tompkins & Crust Pizzeria, East Village, NYC
Example business. Made-up reviews.

Came in at 11pm after a show. Got a plain slice and a grandma square. The crust actually crackles and the sauce isn't sweet. We were waiting on a fresh pie and the guy at the counter handed my friend a garlic knot so she wasn't standing there empty-handed. Instant regular.

Reply from Tompkins & Crust (written by ReplyRounds)
Priya, the crackle is the whole point, so thank you for noticing. The garlic knot was Danny. He hates seeing anyone wait with nothing in their hands, and I'll make sure he reads this. The grandma squares come out of the oven until close, so next time you're here after a show, ask for a corner piece. Those go first.

Marco, owner

Why it works: Thanks her by name, credits the staff member she mentioned, and gives her a reason to come back. No "we value your feedback."

Kevin L.

The pizza is a 5, honestly. But we ordered delivery on Friday and it showed up 70 minutes later and lukewarm. Also no ranch, which I know is a crime to ask for at a NY spot, but it's on the menu.

Reply from Tompkins & Crust (written by ReplyRounds)
Kevin, fair on every count, ranch included. If it's on the menu, it should be in the bag. Seventy minutes is too long, and a lukewarm pie isn't the pizza you're giving five stars to. Friday nights have been stretching our drivers thin, so we've added another one from 6 to 10. If you give us another shot, call the shop directly and I'll make sure yours goes out first.

Marco, owner

Why it works: Agrees with the fair parts, names a fix the owner confirmed, and keeps the joke. Says sorry once, not three times.

Mike D.

Rudest service I've had in this city. Asked for my slice reheated and the guy rolled his eyes and said "it's fine." Paid $5 for a cold slice. Never again.

Reply from Tompkins & Crust (written by ReplyRounds)
Mike, I'm sorry. Every slice should go back in the oven unless you tell us otherwise, and nobody should get an eye-roll for asking. That isn't how I want anyone treated at my counter. I'd like to hear what happened and make it right. Please call the shop and ask for me, Marco, or message us through our Google profile. I read every one myself.

Marco, owner

Why it works: Stays calm, owns the problem without blaming staff in public, and takes it offline with a real person to contact. Owners always approve these first.

Waited 20 minutes for two drinks on a Saturday. The coffee was good but nobody said anything about the delay.

Reply from Example cafe in Brooklyn (written by ReplyRounds)
Jon, thank you for telling us. A 20-minute wait with no update is not okay, and we are sorry. We have added a second person on the bar for Saturday mornings, and the team will now give a time estimate when there is a line. We hope you give us another try.

Why it works: Says sorry once, names a real fix, and does not argue. (The fix must be true. We ask you first.)

Good care but I waited 40 minutes past my appointment time.

Reply from Example dental office in Manhattan (written by ReplyRounds)
Thank you for the honest feedback, Chris. Your time matters, and a long wait is frustrating. We are reviewing how we schedule appointments to cut down on delays. If you would like to talk about your visit, please call our front desk.
